Abstract

485,998. Centrifugal dust separators ; heating feedwater. BUELL COMBUSTION CO., Ltd. Dec. 30, 1937, No. 36173. Convention date, Jan. 16. [Class 23] [Also in Group XIII] A centrifugal dust separator 2 for use with steam generating plant has economizer tubes 4 for pre - heating the boiler feed water arranged inside the separator. The hot dust laden gas enters by the tangential inlet 1 and is skimmed at the slot 8 after whirling, so that a small part of the gas with the dust passes to a secondary separator 9. The cleaned gas, after making a sharp turn, passes between the inclined vanes 3 and then between the economizer tubes 4 to the outlet 7. The clean gas from the secondary separator 9 is conducted by the pipe 11 to the top of the main separator 2. The economizer tubes 4 are connected between inlet and outlet headers 5, 6, and some tubes may be placed in the pipe 11. The tubes 4 in the separator may be arranged in concentric circles, and the vanes may be of flattened tubular section as shown in Fig. 5. A pair of tubes 12 have a pair of plates 13 welded to them to form the hollow vane. The tubes 4 may be provided with fins, and may be divided into groups secured by metal plates. In a modification the axis of the main separator is horizontal.
