[Class 144 (i)] Beaded-edge tyres are built up on a machine, of the type described in Specification 335,691, [Class 144 (i)], comprising a spool 15 from which cord material 16 is wound about the spaced beads fitted over rollers 12, 13 by laying the extensible bead cores 18 on metal bands 11 which are subsequently removed through slits cut in the edges of the built-up casing. As shown, the rollers 12, 13 are grooved to position the bands 11, the bead cores 18 being guided on to the bands by profiled rollers 26. The latter are carried on an arm 29 pivoted on a bracket 30 which moves with the shiftable roller 12. The arm 29 is formed with a cam 31 which engages a fixed stop 32 to raise the rollers 26 as the roller 12 is moved into inoperative position. The slitting of the edges is effected by knives 28 adjustably mounted on a radiusarm 36 which carries a profiled pressure-roll 35. In modifications (not shown), automaticallyoperated devices may be fitted to withdraw the bands 11; the latter may be formed to facilitate the slitting-operation ; and the knives may be replaced by electrically-operated scissors.
