Abstract

1,210,935. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 22 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 58331/67. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre is provided with at least one hollow 20 in at least one of its sidewalls near the edge of a fabric reinforcement so as to induce flexing of the sidewall in the region of the hollow rather than at the edge of the fabric reinforcement. The fabric reinforcement may comprise a carcass ply 10, 11 or a chafer strip 18. The hollow is preferably in the exterior surface of the tyre sidewall and may take the form of a circumferentially-extending groove which may or may not be continuous. The carcass may be of cross or radial ply construction and the cords of the plies and/or chafer strip may be made of metal or textile material.
