Abstract
485,333. Preparing fuel. POURBAIX, M. May 3, 1937, No. 12540. [Class 50] High temperature coke for use in metallurgical processes involving the reduction of carbon dioxide is treated in non-incandescent state with a solution or suspension of one or more of the oxides or hydroxides of Be, Ca, Sr, V, Zn, Mg, Li, or substances liberating the oxides under heat, the compound being sufficiently fluid to allow impregnation without saturation. Before, during, or after this treatment the coke may be treated with oxides or hydroxides of Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, K, Mn, Na, Ra., or oxideliberating substances such as carbonates, chromates, bichromates, manganates, permanganates. The oxide or hydroxide may be applied by spraying or by immersion of the coke, or by precipitation upon the coke by alkalization of the appropriate solutions. The coke may be stirred during treatment and the' amount of liquid used is preferably small enough to ensure rapid drying of the mass. Specification 465,099 is referred to.
