Abstract

484,965. Etching. PERCIVAL, S. (Etched Products, Inc.) Oct. 5, 1937, No. 26956. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (ii)] A process for etching name plates or the like consists in feeding a strip of metal through apparatus which repeatedly applies an ink design, powders with a material capable of forming an acid resist (e.g. asphaltum), heats to set the resist, and finally passes the strip into an etching-bath. The strip is fed from a roll to a printing-apparatus wherein the design is applied by a rubber printing or offset roller. The strip passes first under a hopper distributing powdered asphaltum, then under a second hopper distributing powdered talc, beneath a brush to remove surplus powder, and is finally wound on a rotating roller which is given an axial movement so that the strip is wound helically to facilitate etching ; alternatively, the strip can be fed directly into the etching-bath.
