Abstract

Artificial threads, films, or the like are prepared from a mass consisting of a cellulose derivative or other organophilic highly polymeric substance, and an ester of a polymeric carbohydrate or carbohydrate derivative with an organic sulphonic acid or sulphamic acid, which ester is soluble or converted to a plastic mass in organic solvents. The products may be obtained by wet or dry spinning methods, by casting or the like. There may be added to the mass to be shaped also synthetic resinous substances containing reactive groups having an alkylating function as described in Specification 455,849; substances which possess, or are converted by mild hydrolysis into bodies which possess a greater capacity for swelling in water than the main component e.g., polymerized vinyl compounds; high molecular resinous or polymeric substances having acid or latent acid groups, e.g., polymerizates containing unsaturated acids, mixed polymerizates from maleic anhydride and vinyl derivatives, or the cellulose derivatives containing carboxyl groups of Specification 459,711. The artificial threads, films and the like may be aminated, or the aminating agent or its equivalent a number of which are specified, may be added to the spinning or like solution. Equivalents of aminating agents are substances such as dimethyl sulphide and trimethyl phosphine. The products have an increased affinity for acid dyestuffs, and in some cases also for direct cotton dyestuffs, azo-components vat dyestuffs and insoluble dispersed dyestuffs The basic material for the artificial threads or films may comprise a cellulose ester, ether or ether-ester, polyvinyl formal, mixed polymerizate from acrylic acid nitrile, acrylic acid amide and vinyl alkyl ethers, and acetone-soluble polyvinyl chloride. In examples, (1) acetate artificial silk containing toluene sulpho-cellulose is heated with pyridine trimethylamine ethylene imine N-methylethylene imine or N-butyl ethylene imine, (2) artificial silk spun from a solution containing cellulose acetate, toluene sulpho-cellulose and the mixed polymerizate from vinyl methyl ether and maleic anhydride, is aminated with N-butyl ethylene imine, ()3 artificial silk spun from a solution of cellulose acetate, polyvinyl chloracetate and toluene sulphocellulose is treated with pyridine vapour, (4) films are cast from a solution containing ethyl cellulose and toluene sulpho-cellulose and, aminated with pyridine or dimethylthiazole, (5) artificial silk spun from a solution containing cellulose acetate, toluene sulpho-cellulose and acid-split mixed polymerizate from vinyl chloride and maleic anhydride is aminated with pyridine, (6) artificial silk from cellulose acetate, polyvinyl acetate and ethane sulphocellulose is aminated with N-methyl morpholine, (7) artificial silk is spun from a solution-containing cellulose acetate, toluene sulphocellulose polyvinyl chloracetate and the mixed polymerizate from vinyl methyl ether and maleic anhydride, and dyed in the presence of cyclohexyl dimethyl thiourea, (8) artificial silk containing cellulose acetate, toluene sulphocellulose and a mixed polymerizate from vinyl formate and maleic anhydride is treated on leaving the spinning cell with isoquinoline and then heated, (9) artificial silk is spun from a solution containing cellulose acetate and acetyl toluene sulphonyl cellulose and aminated with trimethylamine, (10) a solution of oxyethyl cellulose acetate and toluene sulphostarch is worked up into a film which is aminated with pyridine, (11) a solution of cellulose acetate and the ether-ester from dimethylcellulose and diethylaminosulpho-chloride is cast to form a film, (12) a film produced from cellulose acetate and sulpho-oxy-ethyl cellulose is heated with pyridine or pyridine and benzylamine, (13) a film containing cellulose acetate and benzene sulphonic acid ester of starch is treated with aqueous pyridine containing benzylamine, (14) a thread spun from an acetylation solution to which benzene sulphonic acid ester of starch has been added during the acetylation, is treated with benzylamine, (15) the benzylamine of the previous example is replaced by ethylene diamine or mono- or di-ethanolamine, (16) fibres obtained by spinning a crude cellulose triacetate solution containing benzene sulphonic acid ester of starch are aminated in a solution containing cyclohexylamine and sodium acetate, (17) the fibres of the previous example are aminated with a, solution of pyridine, benzylamine and mannite or of cyclohexylamine, pyridine and sodium acetate, (18) an acetylation solution containing benzene sulphonic acid ester of starch is spun, and the fibre is swollen in acetone and treated with a solution containing benzylamine and sodium acetate, (19) a film poured from a solution containing methyl cellulose, benzene sulphonic acid ester of starch and the tetramine obtained from ethylene diamine and 4, 6-di-o -chlormethyl-1, 3-dimethylbenzene, is heated in an atmosphere of nitrogen. The products of each of the examples are dyed.
