484,627. Heels for footwear. HUNKEL, H. P. April 10, 1937, No. 10299. [Class 17 (ii)] A heel comprises a thinwalled shell a of artificial resin or similar thermo-setting material filled with a filling material c comprising a binder and wood or cork dust from which a part of the natural water content has been removed before mixture with the binding agent, introduced in a plastic condition. The binding agent may be oxidized bitumen. Alternatively, colophony and an impregnating agent comprising nitrocellulose, amylacetate, amyl alcohol, wood spirit and castor oil may be employed. The shell or casing may be provided on the inner face with knobs, ribs, bars or the like b to prevent relative movement between the filling material c and the shell a. The tread face of the casing may have an integral closing member or a heel lift d of wearing material may be attached by nails.
