Abstract

484,261. Gyratory crushers. TRIGGS, W. W. (Traylor Engineering & Manufacturing Co.) July 5, 1937, No. 18609. [Class 59] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] The gyratory shaft 1 is suspended in a spider 2 by a nut 6 engaging a helical thread 12 on the shaft, the nut being supported on a concave washer 7 which has a flat undersurface slidable on a flange 14a of a bush 3a. The shaft 1 is provided with a hardened steel sleeve 5 and gyrates about a centre o, the internal diameter of the bush 3a being recessed above and below the centre to allow rocking movement. The single or multiple helical thread on the shaft 1 is formed by a longitudinal face 12a, Fig. 2, inclined downwardly and inwardly with respect to the axis of the shaft and a transverse face 12b substantially at right-angles to the face 12a whereby in the suspended condition of the shaft the faces 12a of the threads are in wedging engagement with the corresponding faces of the threads in the nut and the transverse faces 12b are out of contact with the corresponding faces of the thread in the nut. When the shaft 1 is raised the nut 6 is struck by a hammer to disengage the surfaces 12a and the nut is then removed from the shaft. The nut may be locked on the shaft by a longitudinal feather or key.
