Abstract
484,157. Valve generating circuits. GEIGER, M., and TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Oct. 28, 1936, No. 29330. [Class 40 (v)] A saw-tooth oscillator comprises a switching- device, such as a thermionic valve 19, Fig. 4, for interrupting a current through an inductance coil 18, the resulting voltage being applied through a step-down transformer to charge a condenser 16 rapidly through a unilateral conductor 15, and the condenser being discharged slowly through a shunt resistance 17. The interruptions are effected by negative pulses applied to the grid of the valve 19, and at each interruption oscillations tend to be set up in the circuit 18, 16. Owing however to the unilateral conductor 15, the oscillation cannot proceed beyond the stage of charging the condenser 16, and this charge gradually leaks away across the resistance 17 to provide the slow sawtooth stroke. The condenser may be coupled to the coil 18 by an auto-transformer tapping, or by separate coils. The condenser 16 may be replaced by two condensers in series with their junction connected to a point of fixed voltage, to provide symmetrical scanning- voltages, Fig. 5 (not shown). As shown in Fig. 6, the voltage across the condenser 16 is fed into the grid circuit of the valve 19 in series with the trigging impulse with the result that a saw-tooth current is developed in the plate circuit of the valve, which current may be used for electromagnetic scanning.
