Abstract

483,604. Slicing - machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatachappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.) March 20, 1937, No. 8258. [Class 28 (ii)] In a slicing-machine, a gravity-feed substance carrier 10 is swung about an axis 12 and a slice-receiver 19 is moved, to-and-fro, beneath the'knife 14, in unison with the carrier 10. The knife is driven by a motor 15 through worm and chain gearing 16, 17, the knife and its driving means being carried by a structure 13 in which the pivot pin 12 is mounted. The structure 13 is pivotally adjustable on the base 21 the inclination of the carrier 10 being thus regulable to suit the material to be sliced. The structure 13 is locked in its adjusted position by a clamping handle 24, bushes with serrated faces being pressed thereby against correspondingly serrated faces on the structure 13. The carrier 10 is of V-section and faces the pivot 12. The carrier arm 11 is provided with a pin 27 on which the carrier is pivotally arranged, a clamping-pin 28 being tightened to lock the carrier in its position of adjustment. The slice receiver 19 has a slice-retaining flange 19a and is adjustable, manually and/or mechanically on pins 20a to-and-fro the slicing plane. The slice thickness is determined by a regulable fence plate. The main body of the knife is masked bv a stationary plate 31. The range of adjustment of the structure 13 is such that the slicing plane is horizontal. In this case the substance carrier would be set at such an inclination to the slicing plane that the substance has no tendency to topple forward.
