Abstract

483,018. Model aircraft. BACK, W. E. Oct. 9, 1936, Nos. 27417, 28835, and 33658. [Class 4] A toy aeroplane or glider includes a longitudinal spar or framework A<1>, a main plane F<1> and resilient means G which for normal flight conditions hold the plane against the spar, but which permit the plane to move against the resilient means on the occurrence of abnormal forces on the plane. As shown, the spar is formed of side-members A, A<1> connected together by distance pieces. A fin is secured to the after-end of the spar and a tail-plane is pivotally mounted on a screw. Two chocks E form a bearing for a lath F secured to the undersurface of the wing F<1> which may be reinforced by plywood or ribs. A rubber band G passes over pegs G<1>, G<2>, the leading edge of the wing and through a slot F<2>. Forward movement of the band is limited by pegs G<3>, G<4> and a flexible member B<4> carrying a member B<5>. A buffer H is secured in-the leading edge of the wing, the ends and centre of which are reinforced by adhesive-tape. A piece of wire J<1> secured to the wing by a piece of adhesive-tape engages a rubber band K passing over a pin K<1> and adapted to be lightly tensioned when the wing is in its normal position. The wing may engage the band K through a link providing lost motion. The tension of the rubber bands may be adjusted and the band G may be secured to the wing by detachable pins. The plane may be made from a hollowed piece of wood and the body may be covered by fabric. Two or more rubber bands may be employed. A buffer L, launching hook L<1> and balance weight L3 are provided and the toy may be launched in the manner described in Specification 439,826. According to the second Provisional Specification the wing spar may be of built-up hollow construction and the wings may taper, the wing tips being swept forward.
