[Class 56] [Also in Groups XI and XVI] A method of making light-diffusing glass articles, especially electric lamp bulbs or lamp shades, comprises applying to the glass surface a layer of small grains of glass having a softening temperature somewhat lower than that of the glass to be treated, subjecting the coated surface to heat sufficient to fuse the grains on to the glass surface, and then subjecting the coated surface to the action of a glass solvent to remove the fused-on grains and leave a pitted or scarred surface.
