Abstract

482,348. Window guards and shutters. GROOM, S. L. Sept. 26, 1936. No. 26157. [Class 20 (iii)] A window or door guard comprises a series of corrugated plates connected at their upper edges to chains 1 or like flexible suspending and operating means so that the corrugations are horizontal and adapted to be opened by lowering side-by-side into a receptacle 7 having an outwardly sloping bottom. Each plate is connected by means of a cross-bar 4 and links 5 to the chains which pass over guide pulleys 18, 11, through the wall to worm-actuated sprocket 13 and are attached to counterweights. The hand-actuated shaft 16 for the chains may also by means of a shaft 21 and bevel gears 22 actuate a conveyer 8 on which the plates move into or out of the housing 7. The cover 9 of the housing may be hinged, as shown in Fig. 1. The plates may be suspended by hooks on a pair of chains, Fig. 4, and be movable to and from the window on hangers 28 and guides 24. The guides 27 have vertical limbs held in wall brackets 31, 32, the upper one having a cross-piece 33 with inturned ends bearing against the wall for stability.
