Aug. 23, 1927, Windows.-Window sashes of the kind in which the meeting rails of the upper and lower sashes are hinged together are pivoted to slides 6 controlled by cords and weights and are adapted to open from the sill or lintel to permit of cleaning the outside of the panes. The slides may consist of brass channels, the top slides being grooved for the passage of cords to the lower ones or may consist of wooden uprights connected to a cross-bar. The sashes are opened by pushing or by handles on the cross-bars of the slides. The sashes may be held open by a cord and hook and eye connecting them. Bolt fastenings may be provided for the closed positions. A hinged ventilating sash 18 is provided in the upper sash and its stay 19 is connected to a socket 21 sliding on a bar 22 secured to the top rail and transome 23. The socket 21 may be actuated by a cord passing over the pulley 28. A wing-bolt 24 can be used to hold the stay in any position and a sliding hook 25 is adapted to hold it in the closed position. A second hinged sash 26 may be mounted on either sash and this may be attached to or act instead of the slide. A spring-pressed weather board or inverted gutter may be mounted on the bottom sash and adapted to engage the rabbet of the sill. When copper suspending cords are used, the counterweights have two communicating bores through which the cord is looped and joined. A detachable sunblind may be carried by the upper sash.
