Abstract

482,337. Eccentrics ; connecting - rods. KINETOR (DEVELOPMENT) Ltd., and VESPOLI, A. H. Sept. 23, 1936, No. 25882. [Class 122 (i)] Comprises adjustable eccentric mechanism suitable for apparatus of the kind described in Specification 465,197, [Group XXII]. The sheave is formed with an elongated slot engaging parallel faces on the shaft and is movable transversely by a screwmember which passes completely through the shaft across the slot and engages the end walls thereof. The throw of the eccentric and the length of the eccentricrod are simultaneously adjusted so that the points of connection are maintained equidistant. The rod may be connected at the point of connection of the tractor levers, or may be directly connected to the pressure ram. The shaft 1 is mounted in bearings 2 and has a middle section 4 and flat faces 6, 7 which engage a slot 8 in the eccentric sheave 9. The sheave is movable transversely across the shaft by screw mechanism comprising screws 16 mounted in parallel holes 15. The screws are in two parts 16a, 16b keyed together. The construction eliminates play between the threads and forces tending to displace the housing-bushings 17. Thrust members 21 and locking-nuts are arranged between the screws 16b and the sheave. The screws are rotated by coupling pins 24 with dogs engaged by dogs on shafts 44, 44a operated by electric-motor-driven tooth gearing. The nuts 26 and screwed bushes 23 are untightened and tightened before and after operation by rotatable, concentric, longitudinally - movable barrels 28, 29, formed as box spanners. Flanges 30, 31 limit the movement and have polygonal heads by which they may be rotated by a spanner, &c. Screws 32 prevent relative longitudinal movement. The barrel 29, Fig. 5, has a stop 34 which may slide longitudinally in a groove 27 and then may be rotated in a groove 37, and again moved longitudinally into a recess 38 when the flange 31 engages the bushing 36. A spring-pressed plunger stop 39 projects from the barrel 38 into a recess in a gear wheel 41 so that the barrel can be rotated to a limited extent. The stop 39 engages a cavity 42 at the end of the groove. The wheel 41 is fixed on shaft 44 provided with dogs 45 which engage dogs 26a on the coupling-pins 24. A collar or shaft 44 engages the bottom of the barrel 28. The wheels 41, 41a are supported by a bracket 48 movable on a shaft which is adapted to impart an axial movement to them by a handwheel 49. Withdrawal of the shafts is effected by members 51 carried by the bracket which engages grooves 53 on the wheel bosses. The wheels 41, 41a engage a wheel 56 with elongated teeth on the eccentric cap which wheel engages through a wheel 57, Fig. 1, a pinion 58 on a shaft 59 which extends across the eccentric and through gearing adjusts the length of the eccentric-rod in accordance with the adjustment of the eccentric. An electric motor operates the shaft 59 by means of gearing 60. The shaft 59 through wheels 65, 66 operates a split, screwed sleeve 67 connected to the driven member 68. A shaft 75, Fig. 5, with a quadrant 74 and a handle 76 enables the wheel 41 to be locked in the non-adjusting position. When the motor is started to adjust the eccentric, the shafts 44, 44c and barrels 28 are rotated. The barrels 29 are prevented from rotating by the stops 34 held in the recesses 38. When the adjustment is complete, the rack 74 is unlocked and the bracket 48 withdrawn to withdraw the stops 34 from the cavities 38 and the stops 39 from the cavities 42. The switches 64 controlling the electric motor are carried by the bracket 48 behind a fixed perforated plate 64x and can only be operated when the mechanism is in the adjusting position. When the adjustment reaches its limit, a switch 56 automatically stops the motor. The adjustment may be effected by hand.
