Abstract

482,309. Hydraulic gears ; fluidactuated valves. HEERDT, O., and PITTLER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK AKT.-GES. Sept. 29, 1936, No. 26435. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] A valve device for use with hydraulic gears comprising a reversible pump part and a motor part is arranged between two pipes connecting the pump to the motor and a third pipe connected to the reservoir, and is so arranged that, whichever connecting pipe is under pressure, the pressure closes the valve between that pipe and the third pipe and opens the valve connecting the third pipe to the return connection between motor and pump. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the two connecting pipes 2, 3 lead to chambers housing opposed lift valve members 5, 6 biassed towards their seats by springs 15. The valves are guided by fluted guides 7, 8 sliding in the casing, which guides are bored to form cylinders housing abutting plungers 9, 10 each subject on its outer face to the pressures existing in the conduits 2, 3. When for example the conduit 3 is under pressure the valve 6 is held against its seat while pressure admitted through passage 14 acts on the plunger 10 which in turn acts on the plunger 9 to open the valve 5, so connecting the passages 2 and 4. In the system shown in Fig. 2, the two connecting conduits adjacent the pump are connected through a valve device 1 as described above and a conduit 4 with an oil reservoir B while the conduits adjacent the motor are connected with the oil reservoir through a similar valve device 1<1>. Oil is supplied to the pump through one or other of the valves in the first mentioned valve device and is returned in part to the reservoir, after passing the motor, through one or other of the valves of the second valve device. The other part of the return flow returns direct to the main pump. In a modification non- return ball valves are inserted in the conduits to cause the whole of the return flow to pass to the reservoir. An auxiliary pump 19 connected to the conduits 2, 3 through non- return valves 30, 31 supplies oil to the hydraulic circuit to ensure the presence of sufficient oil to lubricate the pump P when it is rotating without delivering oil. The system is fitted with relief valves at various points discharging into the reservoir.
