Abstract

481,785. Production of perforated metal plates by electrodeposition. POL, W. VAN DE. April 14, 1937, No. 10672. Convention date, April 15, 1936. [Class 41] Sieves or other thin perforated plates are made by deposition on a thin perforated cathode provided on the back with a layer of insulating material which extends into the perforations. The material, which may be an adhesive composition, may be applied to the cathode sheet while stretched over a glass cylinder; after drying and if necessary repeating the coating, the sheet is removed and straightened and secured to a rigid base. Alternatively, the cathode sheet may be applied to a base having a coating of adhesive insulating material of thickness just sufficient to fill the perforations. A cathode for the production of endless lengths of perforated metal may be made by bending a coated sheet into a cylinder with the coating inside, seaming and providing it with trunnions. The cathode surface may be coated with hard metal such as chromium to facilitate removal of the deposit.
