721,771. Piston packing. WELLWORTHY, Ltd., [formerly WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS, Ltd.], and HOWLETT, J. W. March 19, 1953 [March 21, 1952], No. 7391/52. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXXVI] A recessed piston ring is chromium plated on the lands of the working periphery, the corner edges of the lands and preferably the edges of the recesses being removed as by chamfer-, ing before or after the filling of the recseses in the chromium plating operation to prevent excessive deposition of chromium at these points. The drawing shows the rings 1 mounted on a sleeve 3 with the recesses filled with wax 2 preparatory to plating, the rings being chamfered both in the groove and on the outside edges where the rings abut one another. The invention is applicable also to inert and to inwardly-springing rings.
