Abstract
481,512. Automatic guns; press-button valves. BRONZAVIA SOC. ANON. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24647. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1935. [Class 92 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] Relates to remotely-controlled pneumatic cocking appliances for automatic guns particularly those mounted on aircraft, and consists in so mounting the driving-head 2 on the pneumaticallyoperated piston-rod 3 that, after it has moved the cocking-handle 1 to cocked position, the driving head is automatically moved aside so as not to obstruct the return movement of the cocking handle, the spring or like means producing such aside movement being only effective when the pressure between the driving-head and the cocking-handle ceases. In the form shown, the head 2 is mounted for lateral rotation on the piston-rod 3 and is controlled by a torsion spring 6, one end of which carries a lever having a roller 9 which runs on cam rails 8 to stress the spring, the lateral movements of the head at each end of the stroke being further controlled by a pin 40 on the head which engages grooves 7<1> in a guide rod 7. The piston 4 is operated by compressed air admitted to the cylinder 25 by a pipe line 5 controlled by a press-button valve 12. This valve can occupy three positions. In the position shown, the cylinder is connected to the atmosphere through passage 16. In a partly depressed position of the valve, air pressure is applied through passages 14, 13 to the pipe 5, and, in the fully depressed position, pressure air in the cylinder is prematurely exhausted through a pipe 26 to allow a partial stroke of the piston to be arrested in safety position III by a pivoted catch 22. This catch is released and restored by projections 19 on the head 2. The piston is returned by air. compressed in the hollow piston-rod 3 during the cocking stroke. This air is preferably given an initial pressure by the action of valves 34, 36 prior to the application of pressure to the piston 4. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a modified press-button valve, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in which the admission valve 51 is opened by a cross-member 59 when the button is pressed thereby admitting the pressure air to the interior of a bellows 55 from which the air passes through a passage 63 to the cocking apparatus. In the inoperative position shown, the apparatus is connected with the atmosphere through a valve 61 closed when the button is pressed. It is stated that the pressure balances out in the interior of the bellows to prevent reaction on the finger of the operator. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
