Abstract

481,509. Lifting - jacks. LAKE & ELLIOT, Ltd., BARRETT, H. R., and BROOKES, W. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24602. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] Valve apparatus for distributing liquids comprises four ball valves 14, 15, 18, 19, the upper two of which control separate outlets. Liquid under pressure, from a pump for example, enters at a port 5. A shaft 24 is ormed with cams 22<1>, 23 having three convex sides, Fig. 2, adapted to actuate tappet rods 10, 11 with a lag of 180‹. In the position shown valve 15 is raised to allow liquid in chamber 3 to escape at the port 12 by way of a passage 25. The valves are urged outwards by a strong inner helical spring 20 and a weak outer spring 21, so that valve 19 is pressed on its seat. If then, the pump is operated liquid forces open .the valve 18 against the spring 21 enters the chamber 2 and passes out by the corresponding duct 13, Fig. 2. When the pressure ceases ball 18 returns to its seat. When it is desired to evacuate the pressure liquid the shaft 24 is rotated to raise the rod 10 and valve 14 and the liquid escapes by the port 12. To deliver pressure fluid along both ducts 13 the shaft 24 is turned to a position in which both valves 14, 15 are closed. The device is specially intended for use with lifting jacks for vehicles and may be used to actuate the jacks attached to either axle or both, and either simultaneously or successively. The chambers 2, 3, may be placed at an angle, Fig. 4, in which case separate inlets 6 will be necessary. In the position of parts shown in the Figure liquid can pass from the inlets 6 through the valves 18, 19 and by the ports 13, 131 to both sets of jacks which will all be lowered. If the cam 28 be turned clockwise the jacks connected to 13 will be raised and then those connected to 13<1>.
