Abstract

481,455. Pack-parachutes. CASPAR, F. A., and PAK PARACHUTE CO., Ltd. Dec. 5, 1936, No. 33382. [Class 4] A parachute comprising radial gores 10 to 18, Fig. 1, and rigging cords 11 secured between adjacent gores in seams 12 is folded for housing in a pack cover by folding the marginal portions 10a of the gores along the dotted line 21 and either over the gores, Fig. 5, or under them, Fig. 6, next folding each gore and the turned over margin along the median line as shown at 22, 22a, 23, 23a, Fig. 5, and bringing the gores together to form a triangular pile, and finally folding the pile transversely in a zigzag manner. The effect of the arrangement is as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 that the tension in the rigging lines causes the marginal parts of the gores to open into a funnel shape whereby air is directed between the folded halves of each gore and thus separates the material 22, 23 which tends to stick together in cases where the parachute has been packed for some considerable time.
