In machines having a tool carrier B reciprocated by screw-and-nut gearing, a mechanical device for stopping the motion at the end of each traverse comprises rings G, G<1> fixed on the screw A and collars F, E, fixed on a nut D, rotatable freely in the carrier, each of which rings and collars is formed with a tooth T. When the teeth on a collar and ring engage, the nut is rotated with the screw and the motion of the carrier ceases.
