Abstract

481,237. Drying-machines. HOLGERSSON, S. P. H. E. May 7, 1937, No. 13134. [Class 96] The pulp-web on drying - machines for paper, boards or pulp is heated immediately before entering the press by means of steam supplied to its surface, from a chamber or steam box into which steam is supplied and from the end of which nearest the press the steam is supplied to the web. The steam is preferably led along the web surface counter to its direction of travel. When the pulp passes through the press, the condensed steam on its surface forces out colder water from the pulp. The pulp web 4 and felt 3, Fig. 1, pass through press-rolls 1, 2, roll 1 being of steel and roll 2 jacketed with rubber. Steam fed from pipes B issues on to the web from a slit D in a partitioned steam box C, Fig. 3. The steam is prevented from escaping at the roll by means of plate M and therefore passes along the preheating space E into chamber F. Condensed steam is caught by the gutters L.
