Abstract
481,188. Printing - machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R. Aug. 4, 1936, No. 21502. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1935. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking-apparatus.-A doctor-blade holder for an intaglio printing-machine is supported separately from the ink-fountain and in such a manner that the pressure of the doctor-blade is adjustable and the doctor-blade can be moved into and out of position without disturbing the adjustment, the supporting-means comprising an adjustable member co-operating with a releasable abutment. The printing-cylinder 11 is mounted for rotation in an ink-fountain 12, and surplus ink is removed from the cylinder by a thin metal doctor 15 clamped between bars 16, 17 supported at each end by inverted hook-like members 18. Each member 18 may be part of, or as shown, adjustably secured to, an arm 23 by means of a tongue and groove arrangement and T-bolts 24, whereby the member 18 can move about an arc. The doctor supporting arms 23 are pivotally mounted on a shaft 25, so that the doctor and holders can be swung clear of the cylinder 11. The shaft 25 is mounted in brackets 26 carried by a carriage 27 movable on a table 28 towards and away from the cylinder 11 by means of a feedscrew 29. The table 28 is adapted to reciprocate axially with respect to the cylinder 11, upon a frame 31. Each of a pair of rockerarms 33 secured to the shaft 25 is secured to one of the arms 23 by an adjustable connection comprising an adjusting-screw 36 secured to a stud 35 on the arm 33 and engaging a screw-threaded hole in a stud 34 on the arm 23, whereby both arms 23 can be adjusted relatively to the shaft 25. The rocker-arms 33 each have a lug 39 adapted to be engaged by an abutment or cam 37 secured to a shaft 41 rotatably and slidably journalled in the brackets 26. The shaft 41 is adapted to be slid axially and partially rotated by means of a handle 46 to bring the cams 37 opposite to and in engagement with the lugs 39 on the rocker-arms 33. By this means, the doctor 15 is locked in the operative position, and repeated setting of the doctor is obviated. The screws 36 permit initial adjustment or setting of the doctor at each end thereof.
