Abstract
481,167. Theatres. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., and WILLIAMS, R. G. Sept. 5, 1936, No. 24268. [Class 20 (i)] . A theatre is constructed with screens adjacent to the side of the proscenium opening adapted to hide from the audience a space on each side from which a view of the stage is obtainable and wherein the prompter, stage manager, or lighting arrangements may be positioned. As shown in Fig. 3, the proscenium opening in front of the stage 2 is flanked bv the curved extensions 5 of the walls 1 of the auditorium, these walls diminishing in depth from the roof 3 towards the proscenium. A canopy 7 with curved sides 8 overlapping the sides of the extensions 5 defines the upper shape of the opening by its edge 10, and provides spaces 11 at each side from which a clear view of the stage is obtainable, and which are not in view of the audience within the auditorium. This canopy at its upper roof portion overlaps the edge of the auditorium roof and this provides a space 9 for light projectors for use with the stage scenery. The triangular spaces 12, Fig. 2, at each side of the proscenium opening may be screened by depending curtains from the edge 10 of the canopy 7.
