481,011. Beating furs, fabrics, and the like; raising nap. HASKIN, S. July 19, 1937, No. 19940. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] A machine for beating furs, fabrics, and the like, for cleansing or nap-raising purposes, comprises a plurality of flexible thongs 12 carried by a rotating shaft 9. The latter, with its driving motor 6, is carried by a frame 5 pivoted to a stand 1 and adjustable thereon by means of a quadrant and pawl 2, 21. By tilting the frame, the beating effect of the thongs on furs or the like, supported on a table 23, is varied. The thongs may be passed diametrically through holes in a sleeve 13, secured to the shaft 9, or looped in slots 16 in the sleeve, Fig. 5. The thongs are stiffened near the sleeve by metal tubes 24, or by coiled wires, in order to prevent their entanglement. The sleeve 13 may be detachable so that it can be replaced by a brush, or may be arranged at the end of an extended flexible shaft, for use in inaccessible places.
