Abstract

480,985. Hand-shields for cycles &c. RIGGALL, E. C. Dec. 23, 1936, No. 35326. [Class 136 (iii)] A hand-shield or muff for use on the handlebars of motor and other cycles &c. comprises a frame or skeleton having means at or near one end for' connection to an intermediate part of the handle-bar, and means at or near the other end for connection to. the end of the handle-bar, the frame or skeleton being covered with waterproof or other material In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the frame, which is formed of metal rod or wire, comprises a main portion 1 of four-sided shape, three of the sides lying in the same plane, while the fourth and front side 3 is of arched form and rises out of this general plane. : Extending between the side 3 and the rear side member are spaced bowed ribs 2 secured at their ends to the main frame by brazing or welding. The frame with its cover are similar in shape to a sword-hilt shield, the front being left open so that the user's hand can be inserted to grip the handle-bar and operate the controls. The frame portion 1 is provided at its outer end with a plate 5 having alternative holes for the reception of an adjustable threaded pin 6, which is adapted to socket or screw axially into the end of the handle-bar. At the opposite end of the frame, a lobe 8 is pivoted at 10 to a member 9 carrying a threaded bolt 11, on which are loosely mounted for rotatable adjustment the arms of a two-part separable clip 12, 13, which is adapted to be placed about an intermediate part of the handle-bar and is secured thereon by a nut 15. To facilitate passage of the control cables &c., the inner end of the cover has a movable end panel 17 adapted to be secured by a lace or leather strip 21 and eyelets 19. The bottom panel 20 may also be slit at 22 and provided with press-fasteners 24, 25. In another construction, the shape of the frame and the construction of the clip are somewhat modified.
