Abstract

480,458. Electric cut-outs. CRABTREE & CO., Ltd., J. A., McLOUGHLIN, H. F., and HARRISON, B. G. Oct. 19, 1936, No. 28391. [Class 38 (i)] To shield or render dead the base contacts when a cartridge or other fuse carrier is removed the cartridge housing contains a spring- urged sleeve which on removal of the cartridge rises to cover one base contact and to disconnect its own connecting contact from the other. The invention is described as applied to the fuseholders and bases described in Specifications 468,894, [Group XXXVII], and 468,895. Within the housing a is the insulating sleeve f provided at its inner end with a contact f<2> serving to connect the cartridge terminal c<1> with the bus-bar b. The upper contact d is situated slightly below the top of the base. When the cap e is unscrewed to release the cartridge a spring g forces the sleeve upwards to cover the contact d and to disconnect from the bus-bar. An asbestos lining f<1> protects the contacts and quenches the arc when an unenclosed fuse is used in place of a cartridge fuse.
