Abstract

479,911. Telephone transmission systems. ESTAUGH, W. Aug. 12, 1936, No. 22182. [Class 40 (iv)] For transmission over a, cable comprising a signalling conductor a separated from a concentric return conductor e by a further concentric shielding conductor b, the primary of the receiving transformer g is connected between the signalling. conductor a and the positive pole of a charging battery f, the receiving end of the shielding conductor b is connected over a resistance h to the same pole of battery f, the transmitting end of the signalling conductor a is connected through a resistance m and the secondary of a transformer j to the negative pole of an assisting battery i of lower voltage than battery f, and the positive pole of battery i is connected over a resistance n to the transmitting end of the shielding conductor b and over the return conductor e to the negative pole of battery f. Resistances m, n are independently adjusted to give the same fall of potential along conductors a, b so that signal impulses in conductor a are screened by similar impulses in conductor b thus ensuring transmission without retardation or distortion due to electrostatic effects. The receiver o may be connected to the secondary of transformer g over an amplifier 1.
