Abstract

479,361. Pipe joints. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and STOPFORD, C. W. Aug. 6, 1936, No. 21710. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A sheathed electric heater 11 is mounted in a head 13 provided with a cavity 12 and a dished washer of soft metal, such as copper, is inserted between the sheath and the inner surface of the head as shown. The washer is then pressed flat which causes it to press against the sheath 11 and the inner surface of the head 13 and form a liquid tight joint. The pressing may be effected by a hollow cylindrical tool or may be effected in two operations by a tool of semicircular cross section. The edges of the washer are machined so that they align with the walls of the cavity and the sheath while the washer is still dished. Specification 421,373 is referred to.
