Abstract

479,113. Valve generating circuits. BLUMLEIN, A. D. April 29, 1936, No. 12118. [Class 40 (v)] An amplifier for supplying saw-tooth current to the scanning-coils of a cathode-ray tube is provided with a negative reaction connection which feeds back to the input circuit saw-tooth potentials proportional to the current in the scanning-coils. As shown in Fig. 1, a condenser 1 is slowly charged through a resistance 2 and is discharged through a valve 3. The upper plate of the condenser 1 is connected through a coupling-condenser 5 to the grid of the amplifier 7 the plate of which is connected through a coupling-condenser 9 to the primary coil 10 of the output transformer, the scanning-coil 11 being in the secondary circuit. A leak resistance 6 is provided in the grid circuit and the grid is biassed by a condenser-shunted resistance 18 in the cathode lead. The negative feed-back is provided by connecting the lower plate of the condenser 1 to the junction of a resistance 13 and inductance 12 connected across the transformer coil 10, this connection serving to maintain a true saw-tooth output, despite distortion in the valve 7 and distortion due to the inductive load on that valve. The ratio of inductance 12 to resistance 13 is the same as in the scanning circuit. A supplementary condenser 11 may be connected directly between the grid and earth to supply a sawtooth potential to the grid independently of feed back. In Fig. 3, the shunt inductance 12 and resistance 13, are replaced respectively by a resistance 14 and capacity 15. A further series condenser 17 and shunt resistance 16 may be provided as shown. The Specification indicates the correct proportion of the reactance and resistance elements in relation to the inductance and resistance of the transformer and the scanning-coils. In Fig. 4, feed-back is taken from a circuit including a third winding 20 on the transformer 10. The circuit may comprise a connection to the cathode of the valve 7, a condenser 22 and a resistance 24, the latter being bridged by a resistance-reactance shunt 23, 21 with the junction connected to the lower plate of the condenser 1. The condenser 1 may be on the grid side of the coupling-condenser 5 and leak 6. Self-oscillation may be prevented by connecting a condenser 25 and resistance 26 between the high-potential end of the third winding 20 and the anode of the valve 7. The discharge valve 3 may he of the blocking- oscillator type. Specification 401,990 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the valve 7 may supply scanning-voltage to deflecting -plates.
