Abstract

478,855. Securing fabric to aircraft bodies. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., BRAY, F. C., BUDD, O. J., and ROBERTS, H. F. Jan. 2, 1937, No. 143. [Class 4] Means for securing fabric to a wing or the like comprises a rib or similar member having an upright limb a, Fig. 2, of U-section and horizontal flanges b with downturned ends d, the limb a being traversed at intervals by eyelets such as c, rivets or the like, around which the fabric securing cord f is passed as shown in Fig. 1 so that the fabric is pulled down partially into the concavity in the limb a. The cord f is knotted at each securing point. Bracing members h, Figs. 1 and 4, may be tubular and flattened at the ends i for attachment to the walls of limb a or may pass through slots in the underside of the limb and be secured by a rivet k, Fig. 4. Rivets k do not form securing means for cord f. Cord f is covered by a tape or cloped strip of fabric g.
