[Class 78 (i)] A machine for agitating the contents of bottles to effect a mixing thereof, comprises an undulating track along which the filled and closed bottles are caused to travel endwise and be repeatedly tipped over during their travel. In the embodiment shown, the bottles are fed singly by a conveyer 17 and fingers 19 on to a track comprising a series of " hills " and "valleys" bounded by walls 3, 4. A bottle 26, Fig. 4, conveyed to the first " valley " falls on to a lift member 5 fixed to a rod 6 connected by a connecting rod 9 to a crank 8. The member 5 which is moving downwards, engages the arm 11 of the wall 3 by means of a cam 14 and tilts it about its pivot 10 to push the bottle against the wall 4, Fig. 5. The member 5 subsequently rises to the top of the valley and the bottle then falls by its own weight into the next valley where it is, received neck downwards on another lift member 5. The bottle is subsequently pushed against the wall 4 as before, and then raised by a member 5 so as to fall into the next valley, this cycle of operations being repeated until the bottle reaches the last valley into which it is deposited neck uppermost. The wall 4 of this valley is vertical so that the bottle may be lifted and then transferred by a finger .22 to a conveyer 18 in an upright condition. The cranks 8 are secured to shafts 15 which are geared together by sprockets and chains 16. The parts of the track with which the bottles make contact are faced with rubber or the like.
