478,332. Automatic control systems; automatic regulation. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 8, 1936, No. 10365. Void. Convention date, April 10, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] Speed &c.-The nature of the invention to which the Specification relates is not clear. It purports to be the regulation or control of operating quantities by means of rotating direct or alternating current machines, the control being effected directly or indirectly by the voltage produced through self-excitation. Speed, pressure, heat, voltage and currentstrength are mentioned as operating quantities. To maintain constant the speed of a direct current motor GM an asynchronous generator AM couplied to it is self-excited at the desired speed by a condenser C and the output is supplied through a transformer T and rectifier GR to an auxiliary field winding H on the motor. A carbon pressure regulator in the field circuit of the motor may be controlled by the voltage of the machine AM. The Specification imperfectly describes the application of an asynchronous generator with two starconnected windings in parallel, and excited by a condenser connecting the star-points, to the control of the frequency and voltage of a network.
