Abstract
477,399. Tensioning-arrangements for chain gearing. WELLER, J. May 27,1936, No: 14914. [Class 80 (i)] In a tensioning-device for transmission chains and the like, a slipper B bearing on a free length of the chain P between the wheels Q, R is carried by the outer end of a spiral spring A. In the form shown, the inner end of the spring is keyed to a slotted sleeve C rotatable on a stud E. The sleeve C may be turned by a nut F to adjust the pressure of the spring. The sleeve may be clamped in position by a nut H or it may be provided with a locating-pin J adapted to engage one of a series of holes in the base G. The end B of the spring may bear directly on the chain, or it may carry a pad or slipper. The end of the spring or slipper may be formed with increasing curvature. In a modification, the end of the spring is bent back to form a pawl engaging a pair of ratchet sectors keyed to the sleeve C.
