[Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] The horizontal pintle 45 carrying the vane of an air-flow meter has pointed ends 45a extending into jewel bearings 62 less tapered than the ends 45a, so that the bearing contact occurs mainly at the larger end of the bearing socket. This portion of the socket is slightly larger than the adjacent part of the pintle end 45a and means are provided to lift the pintle when the instrument is not in use to relieve the bearing of the weight of the moving parts carried by it.
