[Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups V, XVII, and XXX] Relates to the production of vibratory motion to be applied, for example, to vibrating tables for compressing and ramming concrete, shaking tables in foundries, platforms for sacking cement, hammers, &c. The vibrations are produced by the alternating displacement of a point formed by the free extremity of a deformable, flexible or articulated system, the other extremity of which is fixed and an intermediate point of which is displaced alternately from each side of a mean position. The deformable system, Fig. 1, is formed by two rods 1, 2 pivoted together at 3, one extremity 4 being fixed and the other free extremity 5 connected to the part to be vibrated. The pivot 3 is reciprocated through a link 6. Several similar systems may be grouped to give an alternating movement of the plane a, passing through the point 5, to a<1>. A single driving source for all the systems is preferred. The part 1 of the system is stated to move according to the principle of the pendulum. In Fig. 2, the vibrated table 7 is mounted on springs 9 and the deformable system 1, 2 is driven through a link 6 and a frame. The rods 1, 2 may be replaced by cables or steel bands. In Fig. 4, vertical vibrations of the table 7 are produced by a combination of deformable systems of small dimensions, the pivots 3 of one system being connected to the pivots 3<1> of the other system. The secondary systems are returned by springs 15, and the primary systems by springs 16. In Fig. 5, a table 7 is vibrated in a horizontal plane by two deformable systems 1, 2 the pivot points of which are connected together. The members 2 are pivoted to the base 10, the members 1 passing over pulleys 19 and having their free ends secured to the table. Control of the vibrations may be obtained by an eccentric mass 20 in contact with the member connecting the pivots 3. In a further modification, the pivots 3 of the deformable systems are mounted on a ring to which an oscillating movement is imparted.
