Abstract

476,336. Valve generating circuits. CACKETT, F. W. (Telefunken Ges. f³r Drahtlose Telegraphie) May 4, 1936, No. 12624. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 4, 1936.] [Class 40 (v)] Saw-tooth current is generated in the de flecting-coil 12 of a cathode-ray tube by connecting the coil in the plate circuit of a valve 10 in parallel with a rectifier 13 and voltage source 14, and by applying to the grid of the valve a voltage of saw-tooth form the slope of which is such that the plate current of the valve rises with the slope desired for the coil current. When the valve 10 is blocked, the current through the coil 12, which had previously been in the upward direction on the diagram and steadily rising, suddenly reverses, the coil tending to oscillate at its own natural frequency. After a half-wave of this oscillation (which constitutes the flyback portion of the saw-tooth current) the voltage across the coil resumes the same direction as it had before the valve was blocked. This voltage predominates over that of the source 14 and the rectifier 13 becomes conductive. The self-oscillation of the coil 12 ceases, and the downward current in it gradually falls towards zero. Before reaching zero value, the valve 10 is gradually opened by the rising slope of the voltage applied to its grid. The plate source 11 now supplies plate current to the valve, first through the rectifier 13 only, and later through the rectifier and the coil 12 in the upward direction. During the remainder of the cycle the current through the rectifier is constant and the current in coil 12 rises at the same rate as the rise in voltage of the valve grid. The Specification includes explanatory diagrams, and considers the effect of substantial resistance in the coil 12. Specification 400,976 is referred to.
