Abstract

476,197. Bust-improvers. RYALL, S. D. Aug. 19, 1936, No. 22815. [Class 141] A bust-improver in the form of a shallow cup comprises four quadrant-shaped pieces 1 each embodying a perforated rubber sheet 2 having a soft flannelette, woollen, or like material preferably also perforated, attached to and covering its inner side, and faced on its outer side with a silk or like fabric 4 which is secured to the rubber sheet 2 along the edges only, the pieces 1 being united along adjacent edges by stitching forming radial stiffening ribs 7. Each piece 1 includes one or more layers of stiffening fabric 5 secured along the edges only between the rubber sheet 2 and the facing fabric 4, and around the centre of the cup one or more layers of stiffening material 6 is or are secured at the edges between the rubber sheet 2 and the facing fabric 4. The various layers of the pieces 1 are secured together at the cup periphery by stitching 8. The bust-improver is provided with a tag 9 for attaching it to an article of clothing. In a modification, a pair of these cups may be united to form a brassiere or these cups may form part of a corset, bustbodice, or other article of clothing.
