Abstract
476,035. Pencils. FABER CASTELLBLEISTIFT-FABRIK AKT.-GES., A. W. June 26, 1937, No. 17812. Convention date, May 15. Drawings to Specification. [Class 146 (iii)] The wood or artificial wood sheath of a pencil is provided with at least one inlay of a cuttable material differing from the sheath or its lacquer coating in colour, texture, or grain, and arranged parallel to the axis to provide an indication of the hardness of the lead. The inlay, which may be formed of wood, artificial wood, celluloid, plastic material, or the like, may surround the core and be located on both sides of the cemented joint of the sheath, or may be inserted in slots in the sheath. The inlay may be cemented by means of a natural or artificial adhesive to the strips forming the sheath, and the slot for the core formed after drying. When the sheath is formed of artificial wood, the strips of inlay may be applied during manufacture, and the grain of the inlay and of the sheath may run parallel or at right-angles to one another.
