Abstract
475,982. Tapping nuts. ACCURATE MACHINERY DEVELOPERS, Inc. Aug. 8, 1936, No. 21907. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1935. [Class 83 (iii)] A nut-tapping machine comprises a stationary tap 11, Fig. 2, a nut-driving spindle 16, having a longitudinal bore, which receives the tap and through which the nuts are moved lengthwise of the tap, and having lands 19 arranged concentrically around the tap to engage the sides of the nuts, and also having passages 18 extending from its bore to its periphery through which chips may pass, and a rotary driving head 23 on which the spindle is mounted and which is provided with a flaring bore from which chips are discharged by the action of centrifugal force. The nuts are fed along a guide at rightangles to the spindle of the tapper and are pushed into the driving spindle by a hollow member 14, shunting pins 21 serve to bring the nut into alignment with the driving lands which engage the rear sides of the nut corners, Fig. 1. The driving head 23 is mounted in a single-row ball bearing and driven by a chainbelt 35. The outwardly flaring bore 25 of the head directs the chips to a casing 41 integral with the housing 10, a spout 42 serving as an outlet for coolant which is supplied through the hollow pusher 14 and the pipe 26. The shank 43 of the tap is alternately held at different points to enable the nuts to move along the tap.
