[Class 29] Compression machines and systems.-A refrigerating-machine particularly for a cabinet comprises a sealed motor-compressor unit, aircooled condenser, and high and low temperature evaporators 46, 40 respectively separated by a heat-insulated partition 32 and connected in series by a pipe having a weighted valve 105 to maintain a predetermined pressure and temperature differential between the evaporators. The machine may be formed as a unit for insertion through the door of the cabinet with the evaporators 46, 40 in the food storage and ice-making compartments respectively. The supply of current to the compressor motor is controlled by an adjustable switch 80, Fig. 3, operated by a thermostat 82 in contact with the high temperature evaporator 46. The thermostat contains an expansible fluid and is connected to the spring-loaded bellows 87, Fig. 8, of the switch which, through a pivoted rod 90 and linkage 92, controls the switch contacts 94. The switch thus regulates the pressure range within which the evaporators function, and may be set so that frost forms on the evaporator 46 during operation of the machine. In a modification, the supply of current to the motor is controlled by switches 275, 277, Fig. 9, connected to thermostats 279, 282 in contact with the low and high temperature evaporators 250, 255 respectively. Further, a weighted valve 320 is provided in the liquid refrigerant supply pipe 270 to the evaporator 255 to prevent vaporization in the pipe. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to U.S.A.
