Abstract
473,868. Clips. WIENAND, F. Feb. 25, 1937, No. 5733. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1936. [Class 44] A spring-actuated clip member 1 for holding neck-ties or other articles is pivotally mounted on a support by means of a projection 5 ending in cylindrical portion 6 engaged in a corresponding bearing recess in the support, which is shown as in two parts 2, 2<1> connected by screws, not shown. A flared aperture 4 leading to the recess allows the required swinging movement of member 1. Fig. 1 shows the use of a coiled wire spring. The upper edge of aperture 4 has a central recess 10, and member 6 is bifurcated, Fig. 9, to provide a gap registering with the recess 10 to accommodate the spring. The spring before insertion is held stressed by the engagement of limb 18, Fig. 10, with the bent portion 19 of limb 20 which may end in a turned-up portion 21 to prevent lateral separation of the limbs. After insertion, a portion of limb 18 is cut off to allow the limbs to open and bear respectively against the bottom of recess 10 and the rear face of member 1. Fig. 2 shows a compression spring having its ends engaged in recesses. A modification is described using a blade spring held in a cut in arm 1 and bearing at its free end against the support. As shown in Fig. 5, provision may be made for mounting a series of arms on a common support. A further modification is described in which the cylindrical ended projection is provided on the support and the bearing recess in the clip arm. In this case there may be one or two projections for each clipping arm, or the projection may be in the form of a rib extending along the support and common to a number of arms.
