Abstract

<PICT:0473185/III/1> Motor spirit consists of gasolene, a volatile polymer of a 2--5 carbon atom olefine, and a volatile hydrogenated polymer of a 2--5 carbon atom olefine, the relative proportions of the 2 polymers being those which, as shown in the diagram, increase the octane number of the fuel by more than the sum of the increases when the polymers are used separately. Especially effective is 10 vol. of di-isobutylene and 30 vol. of hydrogenated di-isobutylene with 60 vol. of cracked or straight-run gasolene. There may be added: aromatics, e.g. benzol lubricating oil; gum flux as described in Specification 419,690; other anti-detonants, e.g. lead tetraethyl.
