472,855. Distributers for insecticides &c. ROWAN, A., and MILLER, F. H. May 26,1936, No. 14894. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group XVII] A powder-distributer comprises a rotary fan 1, a discharge conduit 8 to which a hose and nozzle can be attached, and powder container 10 whose lower end 15 communicates with the discharge conduit whilst its upper portion communicates with the fan casing through an aperture 13, the arrangement being that a portion of the air stream in the discharge conduit passes into the container 10 and carries powder into the fan casing to be discharged. In practice, suction is applied at the aperture 13 and some of the powder falls by gravity through the aperture 15 into the air stream in the conduit 8. The fan can be driven by a hand crank through multiplying gear or by an electric motor which is secured to one end of the fan casing, the opposite end comprising an air inlet 6. A filling cap 12 is provided on the container. A handle 17 and a support 16 are also provided but the support may take the form of a plate with an upstanding plug having a bayonet joint connection with a socket on the bottom or side of the fan casing. Alternatively, the apparatus can be strapped on the body of the user. To ensure that the container is vibrated sufficiently, the fan can be made out of balance by shortening one of the blades. In a modification, the powder container is situated at the opposite " end " of the fan casing and the discharge conduit leads from underneath the casing and the area of the aperture between the " back " end of the conduit and the container can be varied by a sliding plate controlled by a screw rod extending out of the top of the container. The aperture 13 is replaced by a tube. According to the Provisional Specification, the powder, before entering the fan casing, impinges on an obtuse angled plate baffle and the outlet from the fan casing may have a number of branches.
