[Class 16] [Also in Group XVI] A manifolding-device for use in typewriters comprises a flexible carbon - sheet holder having an oblique forward edge and one or more carbon sheets carried by the holder. The carbon-sheet holder 1, Fig. 4, has side marginal double-ply portions 14, 15 forming flat pockets to receive tabs 12, 13 on the carbon sheets, the plies being sewn together at points 18, 19 to form means within the pockets within which hooks on the tabs 12, 13 may be engaged, the material of the holder being so thin that the combined thickness of the holder and the tabs on the carbon sheets will pass readily between the platen 23, Fig. 6, and pressure rollers 24 of the typewriter. The holder 1 is of treated cloth or other material and is folded over and stitched at the rear edge and a stiffening insert 4<1> of cardboard or celluloid is inserted in the fold 4. Secured to the fold 4 are hook-shaped guide-members 5, 6 for the copy webs and angle-shaped stops 7, 8. The forward edge of the holder is cut on oblique lines 16, 17. The carbon sheets 9, interleaved with the narrower webs of a fan-folded pack, are successively engaged. with the pockets 14, 15. The assembly is placed in the typewriter and, when the first form is typed, is fed forward until the stops 7, 8 engage the platen. The pressure rollers 24 are then released and the forms, gripped through cut-outs 11 in the carbon sheets, are drawn forward until the next set are in alignment, and are then torn off. If the holder is arranged to lie next to the platen as shown it may be extended as a backing behind the carbon sheets. If it is to lie on the side of the assembly away from the platen it is of the length shown, and the guides 5, 6 are arranged on the same side of the holder as the stops 7, 8.
