(Cl. 282-1) This invention relates to a device for aligning stationery relative to continuous form stationery and more particularly to a stationery sheet retaining device secured to a carbon holder for continuous form stationery.
Stationery sheet retaining means for carbon holders currently in use have a tendency to interfere with the normal iiow of the carbon holder and interleaved stationery through a typewriter. Moreover, these devices are not always in alignment with the carbon holder and stationery with the result that typed copy may be out of register with the original. Also, these stationery sheet retainers in current use are not adapted for use with improved carbon holders which consist of a permanent portion and a consumable portion.
It is therefore a primary object of this invention to provide a new and improved stationery sheet retaining device.
It is another object of this invention to provide a new and improved stationery retaining device having means for xedly positioning the retainer relative to a carbon holder and preventing the retainer from movement relative thereto.
It is still another object of this invention to provide a new and improved stationery sheet retainer adapted for use with a carbon holder consisting of a permanent portion and a consumable portion.
It is a further object of this invention to provide 'a new and improved stationery retaining device adapted for use with a multiple carbon holder having a body portion of disposable material and a mounting portion of substantially permanent material to which the body portion is releasably secured, wherein the stationery sheet retainer is also of disposable material and is permanently secured at its front to the leading portion of the body of the carbon holder and is releasably secured at its rear to the mounting portion.
Further objects, features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent from the following specification taken with reference to the drawings, in which:

The stationery sheet retaining device 10 comprises a generally rectangular shaped sheet of relatively stili paper material or the like. The sheet includes a front positioning or aligning portion 12 and a rear positioning or aligning portion 14 each disposed on either side of a central body portion 16. Disposed on the front aligning portion 12 is an adhesive substance such as a pressure sensitive tape or glue 18 for securing the holder 10 to a carbon holder 20 at the leading portion or front end 22 thereof. Hingedly secured to the retainer 10 by means of a score line 24 is a front receiving portion or iap 26 which cooperates with the leading portion 22 ICC of the carbon holder 20 to form a pocket or receiving means 28 for a letter size stationery sheet 30. A reinforcing band 32 is disposed on the retainer 10 on the opposite side of the iiap 26 to give strength thereto. This band may be an adhesively secured mylar tape or similar substance.
The rear aligning portion 14 comprises an outer forwardly extending fold of the sheet which is closed by a line of stitching 34 to form a loop or rear securing means 36 extending across the full width of the retainer 10. The loop 36 is adapted to receive a pair of lingers 3S and 38a at either side of the rear of the carbon holder 20. The ngers 38 and 38a project inwardly into the loop 36 securing the retainer 10 at its rear portion 14 to the carbon holder 20. Thus the retainer 10 is secured both at the front portion 12 and the rear portion 14 of the carbon holder 20 thereby attachingit to the carbon holder against relative movement thereto.
The retaining sheet of this invention is adapted to be secured to a carbon holder 20 of a class designed to be used with strips of continuous form stationery in making multiple typewritten copies of individual form lengths thereof. The carbon holder includes a plurality of carbon holding bars 40 of paper material each of which has a carbon sheet 42 secured thereto. The bars 40 are separated by spaces 44 for threadably receiving strips of continuous form stationery 46 to be superposed in interleaved relation with the carbon sheets 42. The bars 40 are integrally joined at their extremities to margins 48 and 48a of like flexible material which extend rearwardly in elongate thin strips to form side straps 50 and 50a, respectively. The side straps 50 and 50a are received in and secured to a mounting means 51 at stop blocks 52 and 52a, respectively. The mounting means 51 includes blocks 52 and 52a and a rigid rod 54 which is parallel to the bars 40 and at each end of which the blocks are attached. Blocks 52 and 52a each have a side strap receiving aperture 56 `and 56a respectively formed therein. A locking pin 58 and 58a is formed on each block 52 and 52a, respectively, so that side straps Sil and 50a may be xedly secured to the blocks by impaling the locking apertures 60 and 60a on the pins 58 and 58a, respectively.
Fingers 3S and 38a project inwardly from the blocks 52 and 52a, respectively, generally parallel to and spaced from the rod 54 for loosely embracing continuous form stationery which is threaded therebetween through the slots 62 and 62a formed between the fingers 38 and 38a, respectively, and the rod 54. As previously mentioned, these lingers also are inserted into the loop 36 of the retaining sheet 10, cooperating with the glued attachment at the front portion 22 of the carbon holder 20 to position the retaining sheet 10 against relative movement thereto.
In use the sheet retainer and carbon holder of this invention are rst secured to the mounting means 51 by threading the side straps 5l) and 53a through the apertures 56 and 56a, respectively, and then impaling them to the pins 58 and 58a, respectively, of the stop blocks 52 and 52a, respectively. The retaining sheet 1t) which is secured to the carbon holder 20 at its front end 22 is then secured at its rear aligning portion 14 by inserting the lingers 3S and 38a of the stop blocks 52 and 52a, respectively, into the loop 36. Strips of continuous form stationery are then passed through the slots 62 and 62a between the ngers 38 and 38a, respectively, and the rod 54. Each strip is threaded through a space 44 and is interleaved with the carbon sheets 42. The carbon holder, now interleaved with continuous form stationery, is inserted in a typewriter and rotated around a typewriter platen until the stop blocks 52 and 52a strike the typewriter carriage preventing further advancement through the roll. A letterhead sheet of stationery is inserted in the pocket 28 formed by the front receiving iiap 26 of the retainer and the front portion 22 of the carbon holder 20. The carbon holder and stationery retainer thus assembled, is reversely rotated about the typewriter platen until the typing position is reached. The appropriate letter is typed on the letterhead sheet and copies thereof are transmitted to the interleaved sheets of continuous form stationery. The letterhead sheet 30 may then be removed and the strips of continuous form stationery 46 now bearing copies of the letter may be pulled forward until the stop blocks 52 and 52a again strike the carriage of the typewriter. By disengaging the typewriter platen, the continuous form stationery may be pulled through the carbon holder and stationery sheet retainer which is prevented from moving by the stop blocks 52 and 52a. Once the next set of forms of continuous form stationery has been reached, the process is repeated by inserting another letterhead sheet of stationery into the front pocket 2S and reversely rotating the assembled carbon holder and stationery around the typewriter platen.
The device of this invention provides a stationery sheet retainer which may be attached at both its front and rear ends to a carbon holder. The front attachment between the carbon holder and stationery sheet retainer is of a permanent nature. The rear attachment of the stationery sheet holder is through a pair of inwardly projecting fingers formed on a pair of stop blocks mounted on either end of a rod. The stationery sheet holder and a carbon holder both may be disengaged from the rod and stop blocks. Thus the assembly ismade up of substantially two separate components. The mounting means 51, consisting of the rod 54 and stop blocks 52 and 52a which are mounted thereon, are substantially permanent articles which are kept by the typist. The remainder of the device, consisting ofthe stationery sheet retainer and the carbon holder to which it is permanently attached, is of relatively inexpensive disposable material. As the consumable carbon paper 42 becomes spent and can no longer type clear carbon copies, the stationery sheet retainer 10 and carbon holder 20 are detached from the stop blocks and rod are thrown away and another portion is substituted therefor. With the stationery sheet retainer 10 being retained at its rear end as well as its front end to the carbon holder 20 it is held in alignment therewith as well as being held in alignment with strips of continuous form stationery which are threaded through the carbon holder. It is prevented from loosely flapping at its rear end 14 and thus prevented from interfering with the smooth iiow of the continuous form stationery 46 through the carbon holder and from interfering with the ilow of the carbon holder itself through the typewriter. The novel way in which the stationery sheet retainer is attached to the carbon holder at its rear end 14 permits the retainer to be used with a carbon holder which has a permanent portion consisting of a rod and a pair of stop blocks mounted thereon and a consumable portion consisting of the remaining portion of flexible paperlike material.
While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims.
l claim:
l. A stationery sheet holder for use with a multiple carbon holder adapted to hold a plurality of carbon sheets in interleaved relation with superposed strips of continuous form stationery, comprising: a sheet of flexible material; a rear aligning portion on said sheet, said rear aligning portion having locking means for attachment to said carbon holder comprising a loop extending across the Width of said sheet; a front aligning portion on said sheet secured to the leading portion of said carbon holder having afree end portion extending forwardly of said attachment, said free end portion cooperating with said carbon holder to form an open pocket for receiving and aligning the bottom edge of a stationery sheet so as to hold the sheet in superposed relation to said continuous form stationery and interleaved carbon sheets,

In a multiple carbon holder provided with a body having parallel spaced bars each with a carbon sheet attached thereto and being releasably attached to a rear mounting means extending across the width of said carbon holder and having a pair of opposed inwardly facing fingers, a stationery sheet holder, comprising: a sheet of fiexible material having a rear aligning portion for releasable attachment to said carbon holder and a front aligning portion for permanent attachment to said carbon holder, said rear aligning portion having a loop extending transversely of the sheet for attachment to said ngers of said carbon holder, said front aligning portion having adhesive material disposed on one side thereof for permanent attachment to the leading portion of said carbon holder, said front aligning portion also having a free end portion extending beyond said attachment and cooperating with said carbon holder to form a pocket for receiving and aligningthe bottom edge of a stationery sheet.
3. 1n a multiple carbon holder provided with a leading portion and a body having parallel spaced bars each with a carbon sheet attached thereto and being releasably attached to a rear mounting means of said carbon holder and having a pair of opposed inwardly facing lingers, a stationery sheet holder, comprising: a sheet of flexible material having a rear aligning portion and a front aligning portion, said rear aligning portion having securing means for locking on said fingers, said front aligning portion being attached to said leading portion of said carbon holder, said front aligning portion also having a free end portion cooperating with said carbon holder to form a receiving means for a stationery sheet.
4. A multiple carbon and stationery sheet holder for typing original sheets of stationery with continuous form stationery, comprising: a body .comprising a plurality of generally parallel spaced bars each with a carbon sheet attached thereto, said bars spaced to allow stationery to-be threaded therebetween, said bars being integrally joined at their extremities to marginal material, said marginal material extending rearwardly in a narrow band to forma pair of side straps; an elongate sheet of exib-le material having a rear aligning portion and a front aligning portion, said rear aligning portion having a loop extending transversely of the sheet and open at both ends, said front aligning portion being iixedly secured to the leading portion of said carbon holder, said front aligning portion also having a free end portion extending beyond said attachment and cooperating with said carbon holder to'forrn a pocket for receiving and aligning the bottom edge of a stationery sheet; land mounting means for receiving and locking said side straps and said rear aligning portion thereto.

A STATIONERY SHEET HOLDER FOR USE WITH A MULTIPLE CARBON HOLDER ADAPTED TO HOLD A PLURALITY OF CARBON SHEETS IN INTERLEAVED RELATION WITH SUPERPOSED STRIPS OF CONTINUOUS FORM STATIONERY, COMPRISING: A SHEET OF FLEXIBLE MATERIAL; A REAR ALIGNING PORTION ON SAID SHEET, SAID REAR ALIGNING PORTION HAVING LOCKING MEANS FOR ATTACHMENT TO SAID CARBON HOLDER COMPRISING A LOOP EXTENDING ACROSS THE WIDTH OF SAID SHEET; A FRONT ALIGNING PORTION ON SAID SHEET SECURED TO THE LEADING PORTION OF SAID CARBON HOLDER HAVING A FREE END PORTION EXTENDING FORWARDLY OF SAID ATTACHMENT, SAID FREE END PORTION COOPERATING WITH SAID CARBON HOLDER TO FORM AN OPEN POCKET FOR RECEIVING AND ALIGNING THE BOTTOM EDGE OF A STATIONERY SHEET SO AS TO HOLD THE SHEET IN SUPERPOSED RELATION TO SAID CONTINUOUS FORM STATIONERY AND INTERLEAVED CARBON SHEETS.
