[Class 3 (ii)] A sign wherein the display panel is illuminated at the rear by discharge lamps arranged in grid-form, is characterized in that the lamps are enclosed in tubes of diffusing material such as cased opal glass. In the embodiment shown in the Figure sign panels 7, 8 are illuminated by discharge lamps 10 enclosed in tubes 9. These tubes may comprise two semi - cylindrical tubes arranged side by side.
