471,758. Controllers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 9, 1936, No. 7111. Convention date, March 8, 1935. [Class 38 (iii)] Combination of resistances.-In a modification of the control equipment described in Specification 466,893, the odd and even tappings 2, 3, 4 on. the main resistance are connected respectively by individual switches c, d, e, to the one or other active end of the variable resistance B in succession, and the tapping 1 is provided with switches a, b for connecting it to the respective ends of the variable resistance. With switches a, c, closed the variable resistance is connected in parallel with the first section 1, 2 of the main resistance and by operation of the commutator type controller B the variable resistance is reduced to zero. The switches band d are then closed and the switch a opened, the movable brush of the commutator type controller being moved to its initial position. Thus the variable resistance is connected in parallel with the second section 2, 3 of the main resistance. The variable resistance is then reduced to zero and the switches b, c opened and the switches a, e closed, the commutator type controller being again restored to its final position. Thus the variable resistance is connected in parallel with the final section 3, 4, of the main resistance and the variable resistance again reduced to zero. Finally the switches b and e alone are closed and the direct motor connections maintained.
