470,291. Addressing and like machines. ADDRESSOGRAPH CO. April 2, 1936, No. 9786. Convention date, Feb. 25. [Class 100 (ii)] To permit of the use of a long listing-sheet in an addressing or like series-printing machine, having means'for feeding the sheet before each impression, means is provided for automatically gripping and rolling up the sheet. In the machine shown in Figs. 1 and 2, addressplates D are fed along a guide 11 by means of a pusher 14, and impression is effected by means of a roller 35 which is mounted on a carriage 25 and is moved into and out of engagement with the sheet in the manner described in Specification 470,289. The pusher and carriage are connected by linkage 16, 41 to eccentrics 15, 40 mounted on a driving-shaft 22, and selectively operated in the manner described in Specification 470,288. The machine is now provided with listing sheet feeding- means which is mounted as a unit on a bracket 86 detachably secured to the framework 10, and comprises a table 50 for supporting the listing sheet W, and feed-rollers 70, 71 and a take-up roller 60 therefor. The table is secured to the bracket and is formed with a tubular part 51 which encloses the take-up roller and is secured to bearings 64 for the shaft 63 of the take-up roller. Pressurerollers 61, co-operating with the take-up roller, are carried by springs 133 mounted on the part 51. The bracket is secured by means of a threaded rod 156, Fig. 6, engaging a boss 10a on the framework. The bracket and table are provided with forked clips 150 for engaging the heads of spring studs 151 on the framework, and the bracket is provided also with a boss for engaging a pin 158 on the framework. The shaft 102, Fig. 6, of the feed-roller 70 is connected by a one-way coupling 103 to a pinion 100 engaging a sector 97 which is connected by a rocking arm 95 to a link 92 which is connected by an adjustable pivot 90 to a rocking yoke 99. The yoke is connected by a link 88, rocking arm 84, and link 82 to an arm 80 on a shaft 43 carrying a member of the linkage 41. The feed-roller 71 is carried by a shaft 104 having a pinion 105 engaging a pinion 106 on the shaft 102. The shaft 63 of the roller 60 is coupled by a plate-clutch 67, Fig. 1, to a shaft 124 provided with a pinion 126 gearing with a pinion 127 which gears with a pinion 106 on the shaft 102. The cluth 67 is so adjusted, by means of a nut 129, that slipping occurs when the listing sheet is taut. To permit of raising the feed-roller 70 to release the sheet, the shaft 102 is formed with a reduced part 27, Fig. 6, and is mounted at one end in a sliding bearing 107 which engages a flat on a shaft 110 provided with a hand lever 113. The hand lever is formed with a cam 140 co-operating with a lever 141 which co-operates with a sleeve 121 forming part of the clutch 64. When the hand lever is rocked, the feed-roller 70 is raised, and the roller 60 is disconnected to permit of withdrawal of the listing sheet. Initially, the forward edge of the listing sheet is gripped by the feed-rollers 70, 71, and at each operation of the machine the listing sheet receives an impression and is advanced by the feed-rollers. After a few operations, the listing sheet is engaged by the roller 60 and is wound thereon during the succeeding operations. When the last impression has been made, the hand lever 113 is rocked to permit of withdrawal of the listing sheet. If the listing sheet is again inserted and shifted laterally another colunn of addresses &c. can be impressed thereon. Adjustable side-lays 166 for the listing sheet are carried by rods 169 slidably mounted in brackets 170, 171 on the table 50 and bracket 86 respectively, and secured by screws 172. The table is provided with a guard 160 for the ink ribbon R consisting of a thin apertured plate arranged in a recess in the table and having pins engaging notches in the edges of the recess. Specification 294,477, [Class 100 (ii)], also is referred to.
